Forsyth County Government will hold the second community meeting on the proposed Multi-Use Event Center at Tanglewood Park on August 4. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 4, from 6:30-8p.m. at the Forsyth County Government Center, 201 N. Chestnut St., in the Commissioner’s Meeting Room on the fifth floor and residents will also be able to watch and participate virtually at https://bit.ly/EventCenterMeeting.
Masks will be required due to the size of the expected crowd and the rise in COVID cases, and residents will have the opportunity to watch and participate in the August 4 meeting virtually.
Plans call for a 50,000-square-foot building, 200 parking spaces, and include barns with 200 horse stalls as well as an outdoor arena and a practice arena. The site of the event center would be land close to Shelter 2 at the park. The site is on the north side of an outdoor riding ring on the east side of the Tanglewood Park. It is also near the horse barns. Potential uses include equestrian events, trade shows, and sporting events. The project would cost at least $5 million. Voters in Forsyth County approved the concept of an events center in a 2016 bond referendum for parks and recreation. Commissioners had planned to vote on this at the July 29th meeting to take the next steps toward building the event center inside Tanglewood Park, but decided to postpone action because of strong opposition from people who live near the proposed site.
